Partnership Rights This is a broad and complex issue, and should be dealt with in different ways on different levels. We recognise the importance of the traditional family unit in culture and society in Ireland today, but there are many outstanding questions which have arisen in modern society that should be answered.
Some of these issues include whether or not Ireland should recognise and legislate towards couples who choose not to be married, long term but unmarried relationships, and those denied the opportunity to marry due to their sexual orientation or nontraditional beliefs.
These issues should be addressed after an open public discussion, in the interests of helping couples to stay together and protecting the rights of the vulnerable, and the possible solutions put to the people of Ireland by a poll, before being implemented as policy. It is not the position of the state to mandate where and how people's private lives should be conducted, but where state intervention exists it should be in a manner considered equitable by the people of Ireland.
