POLICIES
Defence
To meet the changing needs and requirements of the twenty first century, the Defence forces of the Republic of Ireland will have a broader and more relevant mandate.Defence is a changing priority in the light of the benign security situation in Western Europe in the recent past and for the foreseeable future, although it cannot be neglected, as new challenges have arisen, and as such it may be clearly stated that Amhrán Nua supports the good men and women of the Irish defence forces. To retool the armed forces to effectively face these challenges makes sense on many levels.

The overall goal is to expand the role of the defence forces into other areas such as escalated security situations under the aegis of the Gardaí, worked out in conjunction with the Gardaí as to their requirements on municipal and rural emergency response/special duties, as well as emergency SAR duties and medical airlift roles.

The enhancement of the Naval and Aer Corps is also a priority, with redeployment of personnel into roles in these branches of the Defence Forces.

The development of specialist multi-purpose groups within the Defence Forces is envisioned to enhance utility, and further training will be provided to that end.

Amhrán Nua is opposed to NATO membership or uninspected extraordinary rendition flights on Irish soil, and as always the emphasis will be on Irish neutrality.
