Children and Family Our policies on child benefit and the role of the family in society.Support for children and the family is a central issue for Amhrán Nua, from free education to continuing and enhancing child benefit. Ireland has traditionally been a family oriented society, and as such the continuation of this tradition is a cultural neccessity.
In a recent survey comparing child benefit packages in twenty two countries, compiled by the Department of Work and Pensions in the UK, subsequently validated and used by the Australian authorities to benchmark their package, countries are divided into brackets according to assistance given to support children, and Ireland falls into the second lowest bracket.
The findings of statistics such as these emphasise the need for a greater focus on the needs of children and families in Ireland, and Amhrán Nua is committed to these needs. We will address the lack of subsidised childcare, incentives and rewards for working families, and increase help for lone parents to get back to work and out of the poverty trap or being stuck on social welfare.
